More than 5 million students in Shandong have switched to online education

Jinan, March 15 (Xinhua) — More than 5 million students in Shandong province have switched to online education due to the epidemic, according to a press conference held by the Information Office of the Shandong government on Thursday.Shandong has started to ensure the quality of online teaching by standardizing online teaching, monitoring teaching activities and students’ physical and mental health.”We have launched a tiered emergency response mechanism for online teaching, enabling instant switching between online and offline teaching.”At present, six cities including Qingdao and seven counties (cities and districts) in four other cities in Shandong have started online education, covering 4,619 primary and secondary schools with 4.4 million students, said Sun Xiaoyun, deputy director of the Shandong Provincial Education Department.More than 1.1 million undergraduate students have been enrolled in 45 universities and colleges online.162 secondary vocational schools and 63 vocational colleges have launched online education to varying degrees.The reporter learned that in light of the current epidemic situation, Shandong province has formulated online teaching guidelines for primary and secondary schools and institutions of higher learning, as well as special protection plans for key groups such as graduating students.At the same time, it has stipulated in detail the duration, total duration and sports time of primary and middle school students’ daily teaching activities, and opened psychological consultation hotline and psychological counseling telephone to promote the healthy growth of students’ mental health.
